Different people may feel differently about this. There was an outcry when the Buddha bikini came out, and there have been various other complaints about religious icons appearing inappropriately on household items. Nevertheless, I kind of like this Buddhist furniture set Pacifico & Beato by 21st Living Art. I think it's a beautiful and functional piece of Buddhist art that can possibly assist people in their practice of Buddhist beliefs.
I would describe my own design style as being a "modern religious circus". One day soon I'll post a picture of my altar and meditation space, and you'll see what I mean. I like modern furniture, bright colors and things that are trendy and off the beaten path. I try to avoid too much attachment to material possessions, but I think that Buddhist furniture like this could be a daily reminder to meditate, put Buddhist beliefs into practice and to take refuge in the Buddha, the dharma and the sangha. I also like the way these Buddhist furnishings are used for children in the photograph. I believe that meditation is a perfect starting point in Buddhism for children. I find this Buddhist furniture set quite beautiful, but I have very liberal religious views. Other people may say it's sacrilegious to even consider putting your butt on Buddha's head.
What do you think of this set? Is it offensive, meaningless trendy furniture, or is it a work of Buddhist art that can fit in a Buddhist home and not conflict with Buddhist beliefs? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
