Site News: Facebook is a Fact of Life

I have resisted longer than most, but I am learning that more and more Internet activities require Facebook.  It's too bad that Google's social networking never took off like Facebook because I'd much rather use a Google product.  I LOVE Google!  The other problem is that I am so out of the loop when it comes to Facebook.  I was not an early adopter.  After having used Myspace, Friendster and Hi5, all to no avail, I quit social networking.  I was on Facebook for a while, but I found that all of my "friends" were really coworkers or acquaintances that I really didn't want to share my life with anyway.

Anyway, I came across what's probably a pretty good online dreaming resource at Lucidipedia, but you have to use Facebook.  Grrr.  But I am thinking about moving this blog to a domain, and I'm thinking about either reading Facebook for Dummies or paying some nerdy teenager to get my websites up to speed when it comes to Facebook.  I also am debating whether to get other hosting and Wordpress.  On one of my old blogs I had Wordpress, but the security was not so good and I got hacked.  Oh, I also need a better layout. Choices, choices.

I have been turning to books for help.  I recently read ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income, which was a huge inspiration, but it has taken me time to get setup, as the author indicated.  My next read is Blogging for Fame and Fortune, which I checked out from the library yesterday.  We'll see how it goes.  These books are not totally up to date as far as Facebook, but they offer great tips to get you started.  Of course, any industry is going to change over time, and blogging is no different.  I do need to read some books about leveraging social networking to promote blogs.  I guess my ultimate dream would be to be a full-time blogger.  That dream seems far away now, but maybe someday.

My goal is to build a site that has regular visitors and possibly even becomes profitable.  I admire people that have the visitors to be able to sell ad space on their websites.  I don't know if dreams, dream diaries or dream journals, lucid dreaming and such will ever be hot topics, but I still think this blog could turn out to be "successful".  I have been blogging since 2001, but in my mind my blogs were never successful because none ever had readership beyond my few stalkers, none were ever profitable, and I never really blogged about much of importance.

Oh, and another thing....  I've recently gotten into Best Posts of the Week, Much Love Monday, Pink Saturday and other similar link parties.  I was thinking about hosting a weekly dream link party.  I don't know if there already is such a thing.  I guess I'll have to turn to Dr. Google once again.

Can any fellow bloggers point me in the right direction here?  Any advice would be appreciated.

Your blog looks great! You're on the right track! I think the most important thing is to stay true to your blog. I have a style and decor deals site and often I want to post a great grocery coupon, but I don't because it isn't style or decor related.
